NEW LONDON, Mo. (WGEM) -- If you, or someone you know, in Northeast Missouri is suffering from this heat and needs help, NECAC officials said they want to help.
They're offering free air conditioners to those who qualify.
NECAC officials in New London said Ameren Missouri gave them the air conditioners.
They said they're for elderly individuals, people with disabilities, or people with kids who have disabilities that are made worse by heat.
If you think you qualify, they said just give them a call.
You'll need to bring in proof of income for the last 30 days, your social security card, and an ID.
NECAC Service Coordinator Miranda Anderson said getting an air conditioner to someone who needs it can even save their life.
"For people with disabilities, and seniors with any health issues, who really are affected by heat, it can be life threatening," Anderson said.
She said to get the air conditioner, you'll also need to take a short energy savers class to learn some tips on how to keep your energy bill down.
The air conditioners are free but only once-in-a-lifetime to their customers.
NECAC officials said they're also seeking donations of lightly-used or new, inexpensive air conditioners for those who aren't Ameren customers.
