GOLDEN, Ill. (WGEM) -- Families gathered in Golden, Illinois to raise money to maintain one of the states oldest custom windmills.
Golden Historical Society president Doug Janssen said they offered a meal and tour of the mill where proceeds will go towards repair costs.
This year they hope to repair sails on the mill and do a paint job which could cost upwards of $25,000.
"It has just been great that we can come together as a community again. Last year was pretty tough on everybody and the society included for not being able to get together because of COVID," Janssen said. "Hopefully now that restrictions are lifted a little we can get back to being a community."
Janssen said the next fundraiser will be a gospel concert August 13.
