(WGEM) -- A McDonough County Jury found a rural Colchester, Illinois, man guilty of Attempted Murder, Aggravated Domestic Battery, Domestic Battery, and Unlawful Restraint, according to the McDonough County State's Attorney on Thursday.

Prosecutors said back in June of 2019, Tommy E. Rowland was charged after he attacked his then wife by striking her several times, strangling her with a belt, and then taking her into a bathroom with a knife.

The woman was able to escape and call 911.

The County State's Attorney says Rowland fled the scene and was caught by authorities about 14 hours later several miles away from the crime scene.
