QUINCY (WGEM) -- The construction project on Maine Street between 24th and 30th in Quincy is moving right along and you could drive down Maine as soon as next week.
City Engineer Steve Bange said crews spent the day putting down the final service of asphalt on Maine Street. He said tomorrow they will start on the side streets and complete the asphalt work.
"Next week they will be in to put the pavement stripping down and also have to do some traffic signal work for the detector loops, put those in."
This is the second and final phase of the $900,000 project, Bange said $720,000 of that cost is completely covered by federal funds.
Bange said they should have the street opened up by the first week of August. But, he said if the sub-contractors get in and get pavement markings down and traffic signals ready it will be open by the end of next week.
