A strong ridge will remain in place for the foreseeable future. This could lead to a prolonged period of hot and humid conditions.
We have a very hazy Friday on our hands. That's because we still have smoke overhead from the wildfires out west and in Canada. Otherwise, we're enjoying some sunshine. Just like the past several days though, as we head into the afternoon we'll become partly cloudy as cumulus clouds will develop. Our Friday is going to be hotter and will feel more humid. Highs for places such as Keokuk, Macomb and Mount Sterling will be in the upper 80s, with the rest of the Tri-States in the low 90s. Due to high dew points in the 70s, heat index values will range from the mid to upper 90s. By Friday evening if you're heading off to any events, try to stay cool. Heat indices will still be in the mid to upper 90s. Then by later Friday night, lows will be in the 70s but even then it will still feel muggy.
Heading into Saturday, the heat will intensify a bit. Because of that, a heat advisory will go into effect for the northern tier of the Tri-States at Noon and runs through 7 PM Saturday.
