Mark Twain Lake campgrounds set to re-open after storm debris removal


MARK TWAIN LAKE, Mo. (WGEM) -- Ray Behrens and Frank Russell Campgrounds at Mark Twain Lake will re-open Monday at 5 p.m.

According to Mark Twain Lake staff, storm debris removal has been completed in the area, but large wood debris piles remain inside the recreation areas.

The staff reported the wood debris piles continue to smolder but the majority of each pile has been burned. Staff will allow the areas to burn off over the weekend and will extinguish the fires on Monday.

The staff asks everyone to avoid the debris piles while visiting the campgrounds.

Other areas re-opening on Monday:

  • M.W. Boudreaux Memorial Visitor Center Lobby/Recreation Area
  • Warren G. See South Spillway/David C.Berti Shooting
  • Briscoe Group Camp
  • Spalding Day Use and picnic shelters (beaches remain closed due to high water)

Staff added reservations will be available for the Ray Behrens, Frank Russell, and Indian Creek Campground starting on Monday, but the Bluffview Recreation Area remains closed at this time.
