ADAMS COUNTY, Ill. (WGEM) -- The Kellerville Blacktop will soon be smoother and easier to drive on, but you'll have to take caution driving through the area.
Adams County road crews started a resurfacing project on North 1200th avenue.
County Engineer Jim Frankenhoff said this road hasn't been touched in almost 30 years and is wearing out.
"The roadway improvements have been needed for quite a while. Our pavement management system picked it up and we obligated some federal funding to it about four years ago," Frankenhoff said. "As we stepped through things and the money became available for this year's fiscal year and the work is now taking place."
The $1,149,310 project is made possible through federal funds and Rebuild Illinois allotments.
"They are recycling five inches of the existing asphalt surface to eliminate some of the deep cracking and inconsistencies in the surface. In about two weeks we'll be back to resurface the roadway with a new layer of hot-mix asphalt," Frankenhoff said.
He said weather permitting, the project should be done by mid-September.
