KEOKUK (WGEM) -- Keokuk Police remained tight-lipped on Sunday, a day after shots rang out in the area of 7th and H streets leaving a car riddled with bullet holes.
Witnesses said in addition to the car, they saw an overturned motorcycle.
It was unknown Sunday if anyone was injured or whether anyone was in custody. Multiple calls by WGEM News requesting information went unreturned by the Keokuk Police Department.
Keokuk resident Denette May lives at the corner of 7th and H Street and said she first heard the sound of a car crash sometime after 7 p.m. on Saturday.
She said when she went outside to see what had happened, she saw two cars, one of which was an SUV.
May said she heard a gunshot and ran back inside to call 911.
May said when she looked outside again she saw someone get out of one of the cars and run into an alley, followed by the SUV. She said she then heard another two shots.
She said police arrived on the scene about five minutes later and had two people handcuffed on the ground.
May said it's scary to see such violence so close to home.
"It just kind of scared me like I watch these type of shows, but really wasn't expecting to see it in real life," she said.
