Palmyra murder suspect arraigned, bond hearing set

PALMYRA, Mo. (WGEM) -- Accused murderer Raymond Gum, Jr., 34, appeared before a judge on First Degree Murder Thursday morning.

Judge John Jackson read Gum his charges and set his bond hearing for next Tuesday.

Gum is accused of killing Crystal Cooper, 34, of Palmyra. Police said her body was found in a car in the 100 block of East Jefferson Street just before 11 a.m. Friday.

Palmyra Police Chief Eddie Bogue said Cooper had just moved to the area, and she had been in a romantic relationship Gum.

Menard County Sheriff's deputies, U.S. Marshals and other agencies took Gum Jr. into custody in Petersburg Saturday afternoon.

Bogue said Gum was arrested for Class A Felony of Murder in the First Degree and Felony Armed Criminal Action in connection to Cooper's death.

Gum was returned to Marion County, Missouri, Wednesday afternoon and lodged in the Marion County Jail.
