FORT MADISON (WGEM) -- The last big summer festival in Lee County is set to kick off this week and organizers said it will be an extra special celebration.
The Fort Madison Mexican Fiesta will celebrate it's 100th anniversary when it begins on Thursday on Avenue Q.
Set up is already underway with food trucks out and carnival rides ready to be set up.
Event coordinator Jamie Mesecher said Tuesday they're excited for such a special celebration.
"It just means a lot to the people. It's the last event of the year, the big festival event of the year so other than that, it just kind of warms my heart," Mesecher said. "People stepped up this year, we had a couple of hurdles to jump late. We jumped them. Now we're here in the last couple days and we're ready to go."
Organizers said the event kicks off on Thursday and runs through Saturday.
