It's a big night for the prep soccer teams at Quincy High School and Quincy Notre Dame. The two "Gem City" programs are set to collide for the second time this season on the pitch this evening at Advance Physical Therapy Field. The first time the two teams competed last month during the "Crosstown Showdown" rivalry series, the end result was a 1-1 draw at Flinn Memorial Stadium. The WGEM Sports-Cam recently caught up with longtime QND head soccer coach Greg Reis and Raiders standout Tanner Anderson to get their insight on the upcoming battle against the Blue Devils of QHS.
Ron Bridal has also seen his fair share of QHS-QND showdowns on the soccer pitch over the years. As head coach, his mission is to always make sure Quincy High's soccer team is well prepared for each and every contest, and that will certainly be the case tonight as the (10-6-3) "Blue and White" venture to the southside to face the (12-4-3) Raiders of Quincy Notre Dame. Bridal took timeout earlier today to offer a few thoughts on tonight's highly anticipated contest against the "Blue and Gold" on their home turf.
On the high school football gridiron, after starting off the season with 4 straight wins, the Raiders of Quincy Notre Dame have lost their last 2 games in a row, QND will have an opportunity to get back on the winning track this "Football Friday Night" as they play host to (4-2) Lutheran. We'll check in with Raiders head coach Jack Cornell and starting quarterback Calvin Lavery to get their thoughts on the upcoming match-up against the visiting Cougars from St, Peters, Missouri.
On the prep tennis court, the Lady Panthers of Palmyra are on a roll at the District Tournament. The "Orange and Black" posted a big win in the semifinals of the tourney today. We'll have an update as PHS heads to the finals to face the Lady Bulldogs of Mexico High School.
